Sharing culture through film + food

As part of my Currier residency programming, we had a successful film screening for The Eagle Huntress on Sunday 11/27. Although it was a holiday weekend I was surprised at the full attendance. I gave an opening talk followed by a poetry performance called “I am a Mongolian” [БЙ МОНГОЛ ХҮН] which speaks of the Mongolian motherland from the perspective of a herdsman on the great steppes. The poetry stirs great pride in Mongolians all over the world.

Thank you Julie Hamel at the Currier, film director Otto Bell and Micheal Dicerto at Sony Pictures Classics for offering me the platform to share a slice of my culture with the greater New Hampshire community during my residency. For my sharing cultures through food day, I got to make “BUUZ” [БУУЗ] Mongolian traditional steamed dumplings with the wonderful Currier chef Joelle Cesario. Using my mothers recipe, we made two types of dumpling fillings using various vegetables, ground turkey and impossible burger beef for vegetarian option. We offered our demo dumplings to the museum staff. I thank chef Joelle for a unforgettable day of bonding, cooking and the opportunity to share my culture through food.
